Exercise Vital for Health and Longevity

Although humans today are probably the most fortunate since the dawning of mankind in relation to health and longevity, we must remember that exercise is absolutely vital for health and longevity. If we consider the average estimated age of those who lived during the Iron and Bronze age was 18 years, and according to burial inscriptions in Roman times the average age of death was 22 years. Many people in those times died prematurely due to poor hygiene and lack of sanitation. In the past half century mortality rates have dropped dramatically thanks to modern science and the discovery of antibiotics.

From 1900 to to 1950′s a vast number of people died from conditions such as influenza, pneumonia, diarrhea and tuberculosis. Diphtheria ranked amongst the first 10 causes of death with a rate of 40 per 100,000. These few infectious conditions alone accounted for one third of all deaths in the United States during this period. Today these infectious diseases are easily treatable and for most of us in the Western world we can expect a life expectancy well into our 70′s, not bad considering our past history. For many of us diet and lifestyle changes would go a long way in ensuring that not only do we enjoy good health and well being but also enable us to live a lot longer.

MANY OF TODAY’S DISEASES ARE PREVENTABLE

In our present time there has been a significant rise in other diseases like cardiovascular disease, cancers of the liver, bowel cancer, stroke and kidney nephritis. Many of these conditions are more prevalent in the middle aged. Could it be because people are living a lot longer for these diseases to arise or is it environmental factors relating to the lifestyle of the individual? probably a bit of both, but no matter what many of these diseases are preventable. Exercise is vital for health and longevity and is within your reach if you take the right steps now, no matter how old you are you can start eating and exercising healthily to help extend your health and longevity.

YOUR TRUE LIFE EXPECTANCY- HOW LONG SHOULD YOU REALLY BE ABLE TO LIVE

The human life span has been investigated for many years. Two centuries ago the French scientist Buffon calculated that the natural life span of a man was 125 to 150 years. He reasoned that all other mammals live to five times the number of years it takes their skeleton to mature. A dog’s skeleton matures at three; his normal life is fifteen to sixteen years. Man’s skeleton matures at twenty-five to twenty-eight years of age — so according to these calculation man should if living a healthy life live to 125 years or better.

IT IS POSSIBLE  TO LIVE AN ACTIVE LIVE UP TO 125 YEARS OLD

In some parts of the world for example in parts of the Himalayas the Hunza people are living to the age of 120 or more with vigor and virility, Men are fathering children in their nineties. Studies show that, out of economic necessity, these people do many of the things research has shown are required for longevity.

The main diseases in middle age today is arteriosclerosis. Arteriosclerosis causes hardening of the arteries which in turn cause heart attacks, strokes and senility. In days gone by this was mainly a disease amongst males, today women are catching up.

Strokes are probably the greatest fear one has when reaching middle age as death is not always the immediate result of a stroke; disability is often a more frequent result of stroke. Stoke can leave a person facing life of invalidism—ranging from an inability to use a hand or leg, up to states so severe as to leave the afflicted person no more than a vegetable.

Senility is also most often caused by the hardening of the arteries in our brains.

PHYSICAL EXERCISE AND DIET CHANGE CAN GO A LONG WAY IN PREVENTING ARTERIOSCLEROSIS

  • Various studies have shown that the arteries of physically active people are up to four or five times larger than the arteries of those who who are not physically fit.
  • Internal organs of your body will function with greater regularity.
  • Your body was constructed with a correct place for every organ in it. But years of faulty posture have pushed and pulled many people’s internal architecture into new, surrealistic arrangements that don’t work well. The commonest symptom of this displacement is that of bowel upsets. In women menstrual disorders also occur.
  • Experimental evidence has shown that a program of fitness reduces these functional disorders that are so common today. Bowel upsets, constipation and menstrual disorders all have been shown to have benefited from a regular program of exercise.

Other Benefits of physical exercise:

  • Bowel regularity
  • Improved appearance
  • Greater Vitality
  • Glowing Complexion
  • Improved mental abilities
  • Greater Sexual Vigor
  • Memory improvements as we age
  • The ability to have more energy and zest for life
