Reasons why one should consider a vegetarian or vegan diet.
People have always been led to believe that in order to keep healthy they must eat meat and consume a lot of meat or dairy products. Many countries around the world survive on vegetarian diet of fruits, vegetables and grains and could not sustain their large populations if a carnivorous diet was their main source of sustenance as is in most developed countries, yet they are remain healthy and energetic without meat or dairy products in their diet.
Are Vegetarians healthier than meat eaters?
Times have changed, and today, studies throughout the world show that people following a vegan or vegetarian diet are very often better nourished and healthier than non vegetarians. Non vegetarians are known to suffer much more from diet related diseases such as heart disease, cardiovascular disease, arteriosclerosis, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure and other fatal diseases, they also tend to spend more time in hospitals than vegetarians.
These days many animals are raised in artificial conditions, fed an artificial diet with added chemicals such as hormones to increase the rate in which they grow, other chemicals are meant to change male type cells to female type cells, which produces a more tender and less fatty meat. Animals are often sprayed or fed antibiotics and hormones to keep them healthy. These antibiotics have been known to cause babies to develop breasts and to lactate in early infancy. Toxins from all of these products can exist in our bodies for a very long time eventually causing disease. How often do we read about cows milk produced by dairy farms having been diagnosed containing massive quantities of pesticides and antibiotics? This is detrimental to our health especially for growing children.

Dairy products causing allergies and other health problems?
Many people and small children are allergic to cows milk along with other animals’ milk products, symptoms of these allergies range from eczema, asthma, tonsillitis, obesity, sluggishness and gastrointestinal disturbances. These conditions can become real problems and it often takes years of distressing symptoms for mothers to realize or become aware that their children are sick due to their dairy and meat consumption. It is now known that high levels of cholesterol found in meat and dairy products have been considered dangerous by the medical profession. Vegan and vegetarian foods do not attract the notorious bacteria that are responsible for salmonella and other forms of food poisoning and rich in vitamins and nutrients.
Meat consumption causing global deforestation
The startling facts are that more than 40% of the worlds tropical rain forests have been decimated in this century to develop pastures for meat producing animals. Much of South America’s Amazon jungle, the jungles of Indonesia, Malaysia and other countries are being destroyed as we write, to raise beef to make hamburgers, many of the worlds animal species that live in these rain forests have and are are becoming extinct.
“The earth affords a lavish supply of riches, of innocent foods and offers you banquets which involve no bloodshed or slaughter”
A human being is part of a whole called by “Universe,” a part limited in time and space. We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings somehow as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of our consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.
