If your cataracts are in their very early stages there are natural remedy treatments for cataracts that may help in reducing the chances of having to have them removed surgically. For many years Glaucoma and Cataracts were considered to be one and the same until a French ophthalmologist in 1709 discovered that these two conditions were quite different. Cataracts are considered to be the main cause of vision loss, it is usually an age related condition. Cataracts are a degenerative condition and results in opacity or cloudiness in ones aging crystalline lenses. Depending on how advanced the condition is, opacity may be small to large dense areas of cloudiness which shut out much of the light that should be entering the eyeball resulting in the retina not getting enough light to record an image for the brain to recognize.
SOME OF THE SYMPTOMS OF CATARACTS
If you have this condition you will notice that you will need brighter reading lights or you may need to bring objects closer to your eyes to see them. Double vision may also may occur. You may experience stationary spots in front of the eyes very much like seeing dirty specks on lenses, these spots are actually opaque spons o the human lens. Eventually the cataract left untreated will become obvious to an outside observer by the milky, grayish-white appearance of the pupil.
It can take approximately two years for a cataract to develop to the point where it totally obstructs the lens. In age related cataracts the lens adds new cell layers to the outside periphery similar to the growth of rings on a tree. The lens will then become more rigid and less transparent over time. All of us are subject to such lens rigidity and loss of focus which is known as presbyopia.
However there are other types of secondary cataracts which are not related to aging. Congenital cataract, present at birth, is a metabolic disease. Galactose cataract, another metabolic condition comes from milk sugar accumulation. It can result from the patients lack of body enzyme to break down this sugar during metabolism.
When should I get treatment for cataracts
This can vary from person to person, it is best to seek the advice of your ophthalmologist depending on what type of cataract and how long you have had it. If you have any vision impairment you should visit your doctor to rule out any serious eye problems.
If your cataract is in the early stages you may like to try some of these home remedies, you have nothing to lose except your cataracts. Usually your doctor will not advise removal of the cataract until they have become more advanced. 95% of cataracts are operable. If you are in doubt a herbalist or homeopathic specialist will be able to recommend several natural alternatives in the prevention and treatment of glaucoma and cataracts.
